What we help with

Weak Wi-Fi problems we can sort out

Choosing: extender or mesh?

We ask about your home and what you already own, then explain in plain words which option fits. We do not sell equipment, so we have no reason to push one.

Setting up an extender

Plugging it in, joining it to your Wi-Fi, and finding the best spot, usually halfway between the router and the weak room.

Setting up a mesh system

Adding mesh units to your network or replacing an old router, with a clear note of the new Wi-Fi name and password so your devices can rejoin.

Devices that will not reconnect

After a change, printers, TVs, cameras and tablets sometimes need to join again. We help you do that one device at a time.

Slow Wi-Fi in one room

Checking where the signal drops, where the router sits and whether something nearby is getting in the way, before you spend money.

Provider router questions

Many internet providers supply their own router or mesh pods. See Wi-Fi and router help for those.

Cameras and doorbells that keep going offline are covered in smart home and camera help. Want extra patience? See help for seniors. A family member is welcome to join the call or book for you. A TV that buffers may only need a stronger signal: see smart TV and streaming help.

Try this first

Weak Wi-Fi in one part of the house: a simple checklist

  1. Test in two places. Stand next to the router and use a phone or tablet, then try the weak room. If it is fine next to the router, the signal is the problem, not your internet plan.
  2. Look at where the router sits. Floors, cupboards, behind a TV or beside a metal object all weaken it. A central, open, higher spot is best.
  3. Restart the router. Unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in and wait a few minutes.
  4. Keep the extender halfway. If you add one, place it between the router and the weak room, where it still gets a good signal. Inside the weak room it cannot help.
  5. Note your Wi-Fi name and password. They are often on a sticker on the router. Have them ready before any changes.
  6. Still stuck? Call us. We talk you through it and you stay in control.

If a pop-up or a caller says your Wi-Fi has been hacked and tells you to phone a number, do not call it. See virus and scam clean-up.

What remote support can and cannot do

Being honest about limits

  • An extender or mesh unit helps with a weak signal. It cannot make your internet plan faster, and it cannot fix a problem on your provider's side.
  • We cannot see walls or measure your home from far away. We work from your description and simple tests you run with us, so the best spot may take a little trying.
  • We do not sell equipment. You buy the extender or mesh system yourself from a store you choose; we can tell you what features to look for.
  • Some provider-supplied routers limit what can be added. We will tell you plainly if that is the case.
  • If we cannot fix it remotely, you are not charged.
Questions

Wi-Fi extender and mesh questions

Do I need a Wi-Fi extender or a mesh system?

An extender is a small, lower-cost box that repeats your Wi-Fi into a weak spot. A mesh system replaces or joins your router with two or more units that work as one network, which usually works better in larger or multi-storey homes. We talk through your home and what you already own, and tell you honestly if you may not need either. We do not sell equipment.

Where should I put the extender?

Halfway between your router and the weak room, in a spot where it still gets a good signal from the router. Putting it inside the dead zone does not work, because it can only repeat a signal it can already receive.

Can you set up an extender or mesh unit I already bought?

Yes. We guide you through plugging it in, joining it to your Wi-Fi and checking the signal in the rooms that matter. Please have the Wi-Fi name and password ready.

Why is my Wi-Fi slow upstairs or in the basement?

Walls, floors, metal and distance weaken the signal, and some routers sit in a corner or a cupboard. Moving the router to a central, open spot often helps before buying anything. If it does not, an extender or mesh unit may. We check which applies.

Will an extender fix my slow internet?

Only if the cause is a weak signal in a room. If the internet plan itself is slow, or your provider has a problem, an extender cannot fix that. We can check with you and tell you which it is.

How much does it cost?

A one-time remote session is a flat $100 CAD, for customers in Canada and the United States. If we cannot fix the problem remotely, you are not charged.
