What we help with

Camera and smart home problems we can sort out

Camera or doorbell offline

Usually a lost Wi-Fi connection, a flat battery or a changed password. We check each in turn and get it back online.

New doorbell or camera setup

Installing the brand's app on your phone, signing in, adding the device and joining it to your Wi-Fi. We do the app side by phone; mounting and wiring are up to you or an installer.

Reconnecting after a new router

A new router or Wi-Fi password means every camera, doorbell and speaker must join again. We help with each one.

Alerts and sharing

Getting notifications to arrive on your phone, and adding a spouse or family member so they can see the camera too.

Smart speakers and displays

Setting up and fixing Amazon Echo and Google Nest speakers and displays: Wi-Fi, music, reminders and linking other devices.

Account security

Strong passwords and two-factor sign-in on your camera account, so only the people you choose can see your cameras.

Wi-Fi is the cause of most camera trouble. See Wi-Fi extender and mesh setup if the camera is far from the router, or Wi-Fi and router help. Want extra patience? See help for seniors. A family member is welcome to join the call or book for you.

Try this first

Camera offline: a simple checklist

  1. Check power. Is the camera plugged in, or is its battery charged? Doorbells with a flat battery go offline.
  2. Check your Wi-Fi. Does Wi-Fi work on your phone in the room where the camera is? If not, restart the router: unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in and wait a few minutes.
  3. Did anything change? A new router, a new Wi-Fi name or a changed password means the camera must be joined to the network again.
  4. Check the app. Open the camera's app on your phone. It often says why the camera is offline.
  5. Have your account details ready. The email address and password you used to create the camera account, and your Wi-Fi name and password.
  6. Still stuck? Call us. We talk you through it and you stay in control.

If a text, email or pop-up says your camera has been hacked and tells you to click or call, do not. See virus and scam clean-up.

What remote support can and cannot do

Being honest about limits

  • We help by phone, and by TeamViewer on your phone or tablet where that is useful. Cameras and doorbells themselves cannot be reached remotely; we guide you through the app and settings.
  • We cannot mount, wire or repair a camera or doorbell. For a damaged device, the manufacturer handles repairs and warranty.
  • We do not sell equipment, cameras or subscriptions, and we cannot get around a brand's account or subscription rules.
  • We cannot get into someone else's camera or account. We only help with devices and accounts that belong to you.
  • If we cannot fix it remotely, you are not charged.
Questions

Camera and smart home questions

My Ring, Arlo or Nest camera says offline. What can I do?

Most offline cameras have lost their Wi-Fi connection. Check that the camera has power or a charged battery, that your Wi-Fi is working on a phone, and that the router has not been restarted or replaced. If you changed your Wi-Fi name or password, the camera needs to be joined to the new one. We guide you through each step by phone.

Can you set up my video doorbell or camera?

Yes. We help you install the brand's app on your phone, create or sign in to your account, add the device and join it to your Wi-Fi. Physical mounting and wiring are not something we can do remotely, but we can talk you through the app side and check the signal where it will sit.

My camera or doorbell will not connect after I changed my router. What now?

A new router or Wi-Fi password means every device has to join again. We help you reconnect your cameras, doorbells and speakers one at a time. Some cameras only work on the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band, and we help you sort that out in plain words.

I got a text or email saying my camera account was hacked. Is it real?

Be careful. Messages that use alarm and tell you to click a link or call a number are a common scam. Do not click or call. Open the camera brand's app yourself, or call us. We can help you check the account and set up two-factor sign-in.

Can you fix a broken or damaged camera?

No. We cannot repair hardware or replace parts. If the problem is the device itself, we tell you honestly, and the manufacturer is the place to ask about repairs or warranty. If we cannot fix it remotely, you are not charged.

How much does it cost?

A one-time remote session is a flat $100 CAD, for customers in Canada and the United States. If we cannot fix the problem remotely, you are not charged.
