Built around patient privacy and uptime
When the system is down in a clinic, the cost is immediate: appointments back up, charts are unavailable and staff improvise on paper. Clearpine Technologies is an Abbotsford managed IT provider, and clinic infrastructure is where our experience runs deepest. See our clinic build case study and optometry clinic experience.
What clinics typically need
- A stable environment for your EMR or practice software. Whether you run OSCAR Pro, Accuro, TELUS PS Suite, Med Access or dental and optometry practice-management software, the workstations, server (if any), network and permissions around it need to be patched, documented and fast. We work alongside your software vendor rather than replacing their support.
- Privacy safeguards you can show. Unique user accounts, role-based access, encryption of laptops and servers, screen locks and audit-friendly logging. These are the technical side of your obligations under PIPA; see PIPEDA and clinic IT for how we translate them.
- Backups that restore. Backup to a stated recovery objective, including the EMR database and imaging, with restores tested rather than assumed. See why backups quietly fail.
- Ransomware readiness. Patching, endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication, network segmentation and an offline or immutable backup copy, plus a plain-language plan for the first hour of an incident. See five security gaps we see in clinics.
- Secure fax and referral workflow. Many clinics still depend on fax. We help review whether e-fax or secure messaging fits your workflow and how those documents are stored and accessed.
- Imaging and diagnostic equipment. Vendor software with specific requirements and long replacement cycles has to integrate cleanly without exposing the rest of your network.
- Front-desk reliability. Printers, card terminals, phones and Wi-Fi that work, with support that responds in clinic hours so your staff are not troubleshooting between patients.
How we work with clinics
- A short review of your current setup, with a written list of risks ranked by importance and cost
- Fixed-scope projects for new clinics, relocations and hardware refreshes, with changes scheduled outside clinic hours and rollback plans
- Ongoing managed support for users, devices, network, firewall and backup
- On-site attendance across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley, plus remote support Canada-wide
We are not a law firm or a regulator and do not give legal advice. We help implement and document technical safeguards; what applies to your particular practice is a question for your regulatory college (for example CPSBC, the College of Dental Surgeons of BC or the College of Optometrists of BC), your professional association and your own counsel.
