Dental and orthodontic practices

IT that keeps the chairs full

General dentistryOrthodontics Dental specialistsNew and relocating offices

A dental office depends on its computers in every operatory: the schedule, the chart, the X-ray and the treatment plan all live on the network. When the practice software or imaging stops working, appointments stall. Clearpine Technologies is an Abbotsford managed IT provider with deep experience in clinic infrastructure; see our clinic build case study and our wider healthcare practice IT page.

What dental offices typically need

  • A stable environment for practice-management software. Whether you run Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental or another product, the server or workstations, database, permissions and network around it need to be patched, documented and fast. We work alongside your vendor rather than replacing their support.
  • Digital imaging that just works. Intraoral sensors, panoramic and CBCT units and their capture stations have specific driver, storage and network requirements. We plan changes around them so an update does not take imaging down in the middle of a day.
  • Backups that restore. Practice database and image storage backed up to a stated recovery objective, with restores tested rather than assumed. The same principles apply as in our guide to EMR backup best practices for BC clinics.
  • Patient privacy safeguards you can show. Unique logins, role-based access, encrypted laptops and servers, screen locks and offboarding that actually removes access. See PIPEDA and clinic IT.
  • Ransomware readiness. Patching, endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication, network segmentation and an offline or immutable backup copy. See five security gaps we see in clinics.
  • Operatory and front-desk reliability. Workstation performance, Wi-Fi, printers, phones and card terminals that work, with support during business hours so staff are not troubleshooting between patients.
  • New builds, moves and expansions. Network cabling plans, equipment lists, imaging integration and cut-over scheduling for new or relocated offices. See what a setup involves in our clinic setup cost guide.

What managed IT costs

Managed IT support is $95 per user per month, with a minimum of 5 users and a 1-year agreement, delivered remotely during business hours. Microsoft 365 licences, after-hours support and on-site visits are billed separately. On-site visits are free if the problem cannot be fixed remotely. Offices with fewer than 5 users are welcome: we can set up custom billing.

How we work with dental offices

  • A free IT assessment, on site within 300 km of Abbotsford or remote, with a written list of risks ranked by importance
  • Fixed-scope projects for new offices, relocations and hardware refreshes, scheduled outside patient hours with rollback plans
  • Ongoing managed support for users, devices, network, firewall and backup

We are not a law firm or a regulator and do not give legal advice. What applies to your practice is a question for the College of Dental Surgeons of BC, your professional association and your own counsel. We help implement and document the technical safeguards.

Questions

Dental office IT: common questions

Can you support our dental practice software, such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft or Open Dental?

We support the server or workstations, network, backups, security and user accounts around your practice-management and imaging software, and we coordinate with the software vendor on application-level issues. We do not replace the vendor's own support, and we work within their system requirements.

How much does managed IT support cost for a dental office?

Our managed IT support is $95 per user per month, with a minimum of 5 users and a 1-year agreement. It is delivered remotely during business hours. Microsoft 365 licences, after-hours support and on-site visits are billed separately, although on-site visits are free if the problem cannot be fixed remotely. For offices with fewer than 5 users, we can set up custom billing. A free IT assessment will tell you what your office needs before you commit.

Do you support digital X-ray sensors, panoramic and CBCT imaging?

We support the computers, network, storage and permissions that imaging depends on, and we work with your imaging vendor so drivers, software versions and storage keep working together. Imaging equipment often has strict vendor requirements, so we review them before making changes.

What privacy rules apply to a dental office's IT in BC?

Private dental practices in BC are generally subject to the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and the College of Dental Surgeons of BC sets professional expectations for patient records. Your college, professional association and counsel can confirm what applies to you. We help put technical safeguards in place and document them.

Can you assess our office on site?

Yes. Our free IT assessment is free with no obligation, and can be done on site at any location within 300 km of Abbotsford, or remotely.
